Obedience Bootcamp

Behavior Modification Training for Challenging Behaviors

You love your dog more than words can describe. But often times his or her behavior can be very difficult to manage. It is the responsibility of every dog owner to be accountable and responsible for their dog’s behavior at home and out in public to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of their pet and others. Our curriculum starts with a temperament evaluation to determine the dog’s social skills around other dogs and people. The evaluation also assesses your dog’s environmental stability and level of food drive, which is pertinent information for creating a customized program specific to the individual needs of the dog.

All of our training methods are created to match to each dog’s temperament and each owner’s specific goals in a safe, healthy, positive, and productive environment. Trainer Jermaine Anderson is widely-regarded as one of the leading authorities on specialized training programs for dogs with hard to treat behavior issues.

BOOTCAMP TRAINING FOR OBEDIENCE/BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION

AJT Bootcamps require that you board your dog at one of our campus locations. Your dog will work with one of our dog trainers daily on learning exercises and drills designed specifically to help him or her reach the goals you specifically set forth during your initial meeting and evaluation. The average number of weeks required for participation is four to six weeks, although it is those goals and the temperament of your dog that influence and determine the time period required for successful completion of your dog’s training.

Our Dog Training Boot Camp Programs

Our dog training camp is an intensive program that spans four to six weeks on average, where your dog will board with us at our location and receive daily training that focuses on creating good behaviors. Our dog obedience training ensures that your dog responds correctly to common commands such as sit, heel, and drop it. Our dog classes can also prepare your pet for off leash situations, where they are able to come immediately when called. We also offer focused training for aggressive dogs, focusing on behavior modification and the reduction of anxieties so that your dog can be happier in any situation. Help your dog reach their full potential with classes that cater to any specific need.

Training Overview

We understand each dog is an individual and learns at a different pace. A rigorous schedule of daily interaction facilitates your dog’s motivation and learning process. When combined with our professional dog trainers’ ability to instill the principles of dog obedience through precision timing and consistency each day, your desired learning objectives are imparted in your dog at an accelerated rate.

Each dog begins by learning (either from “scratch” or as a thorough review) foundational behavior principles. Then, through repetitions in different high-distraction environments, your dog builds the ability to generalize dog training concepts. The end result is that your dog is obedient, attentive to you, and well-behaved during any activity, in any environment—at home or in public.

BootCamp training is custom tailored to your specific needs. The result is that you gain the ability to maintain control of your dog in your everyday environment under the most distracting circumstances. Of course, the longer period of time that your dog participates in our program, learning from a professional dog trainer, the more time positive behaviors are reinforced in high-distraction situations, the more solidified his or her obedience will be. And the stronger the dog training foundation, the easier it is for you to maintain the desired performance in the long run.

Whether you desire “loose-leash” walking, better manners, increased socialization, advanced “off-leash” walking and obedience, or want to address specific behavioral issues such as dog aggression, separation anxiety or excessive barking, our experienced professional dog trainers work with you and your dog to reach your goals. One of the factors that sets our BootCamp programs apart from other board and train programs is that they take place at our facility where 30+ other dogs. Your dog will participate in our supervised play groups, which plays a pivotal role in creating opportunities for socialization and exercise. Your dog will be consistently trained and tested under real-life dog-to-dog and dog-to-people scenarios so that he or she knows how to behave and can be controlled in any stimulating environment, with distractions.

BootCamp programs at Loyal Canines aren’t just for adult dogs! Many young dogs and even puppies also attend our BootCamp programs as a substitute for traditional puppy classes in MA to establish a solid foundation of basic obedience that sets them up for future success. This is especially true for puppies whose families desire a well-behaved dog that can accompany them during off-leash activities such as hiking, bike riding, camping and more!

Mastering Dog Training Commands –Your Role as an Owner-Handler

Your dog’s success as a social and well-behaved member of society and your family is dependent upon you! Investing in his or her education is important because, without your knowledge of how your dog communicates and why he or she behaves the way it does, behavior can quickly escalate into an uncontrollable problem. Once you enroll your dog in one of our BootCamp programs, it’s incredibly important to understand the commands your dog has learned so that you will possess the ability to communicate with your dog. If you live nearby, weekly meetings are scheduled for you to come to our campus to meet with your dog’s trainer. Under the trainer’s guidance, you will handle your dog for one hour each week, using the commands our dog trainer has taught your dog and getting a feel for all he or she is learning.
The purpose of these meetings is to teach you “handler skills” pivotal to your ability to maintain the behaviors your dog is mastering. With this knowledge, you will be able to motivate and control your dog after BootCamp is complete. For this reason, we expect you to commit to this process. If you are unable to meet with your dog’s trainer weekly, you are encouraged to arrange a time for a comprehensive lesson and review of what your dog has learned upon completion of the course when you come to reunite with your dog.

Behavior Modification Bootcamp for Specific Issues - 3 Week Course

Whether your dog has aggression toward other dogs or people, or has high anxiety or fear, this program is specifically designed to modify its behavior so that it can overcome those issues and you can properly and successfully manage your dog’s obedience going forward both at home and in public. Our Behavior Modification Bootcamp is unlike any other board and train option available as it takes place where 30+ dogs, of all ages and varying temperaments, attend our popular Daycamp program, and we employ a large staff. Dogs acquire extensive environmental exposure to situations that may trigger their behavior, thus allowing us to address and correct it.

Behavior Modification is a custom-developed course that addresses your dog’s identified problem behaviors—and then introduces the changes required to disestablish the type and level of “the issue’” such as—aggression (over food, dogs, humans, etc.), anxiety and/or fear (of noise, surfaces, being touched, etc.) that your dog experiences when “confronted.” The goal is to terminate the undesirable behavior. Reaching that goal is accomplished through the Dog Trainer’s Plan of targeted exercises and positive experiences, which is administered by an understanding and compassionate dog trainer. Confidence-building exercises, obedience training, and manners are simultaneously incorporated to enhance your dog’s ability to reach its full potential.
Behavior Modification is conducted by an experienced dog trainer works with your dog daily, one-on-one and oversees your dog’s participation in the supervised play groups, and with other dogs individually. These activities are important to socializing and exercising your dog. They serve to test performance under real-life dog-to-dog and dog-to-people scenarios so that your dog learns to behave and can be controlled in any environment, with distractions.

Owner/Handler participation for your dog’s Behavior Modification issues is highly recommended. It is critically important for you to learn how to motivate and control all of your dog’s positive behaviors. Your dog’s trainer will coach you on the way to better manage your dog based upon the initial problem behavior and the methods introduced to correct the issue and continually manage it in the long-term during weekly meetings while your dog is at the facility. And during the meetings, your dog’s trainer provides you with a complete review of what your dog has learned that week so that you will have a better understanding of the rate of progress and expectations for being successful when your dog returns to your daily life. Meeting with your trainer is by scheduled appointment at the Academy and if needed can be arranged as a video by appointment if you live outside of the area.

“Commandant” Obedience II is a dynamic course to teach your dog “off-leash” disciplines and expand learned behaviors. Jermaine will work “off-leash” with the basic dog obedience commands, adding in advanced behaviors and commands as appropriate.

Your dog learns to obediently respond to “off-leash” commands: “Sit” and “Extended Sit”, “Down” and “Extended Down”; “Heel” (walking beside you adjusting to your pace, speed and change of directions, coming into a sit position when you stop); “Drop it” or “Leave it” (to drop anything that is in his or her mouth); “Come” when called (your dog stops activity to immediately return to you); “Place” or “Go To …” (a place like their dog bed, stay and “do not move until you are released from that position”). Additional distractions like balls, toys, bones, etc. can be introduced to proof the dog’s commands around common distractions.

The key to successful “off-leash” training is conditioning distractions. Jermaine introduces distractions into our training each day. Over the course of the six weeks, Jermaine continually adds higher stimulating distractions to the exercises to monitor your dog’s reaction. All while we provide the support helpful to sustaining your dog’s confidence and ability to generalize obedience commands in any environment. This training teaches your dog to be attentive and respond despite interruptions – unexpected encounters.

So dogs are being trained to respond to commands around other dogs, different people and many clients not only at my training school, but also out in public at various locations. This occurs every single day of the program. Under our real life dog-to-dog and dog-to-people scenarios, your dog’s behavior is proofed and consistently tested to develop your dog’s understanding of what behaviors are expected; to respond accordingly under your control regardless of distractions in any stimulating environment. Our goal is to enable you to communicate successfully with your dog at all times “off-leash” with 100% confidence that your dog will promptly respond to your commands.
